Dispatches from the wilds of Poetania – “Mindy”

(Wherein our intrepid hero, inspired by a line in Mindy Nettifee’s poem “Honest Friday“, performs a dedicatory act)

Vast and ancient
it looks upon all it has given life.
It sees the little ones
scurrying to and fro,
it feels the beauty it exudes
and knows the terrible price
of the colours
it rains down.
It looks upon the fields made barren
the cells mutated under its withering gaze
its being so great,
to house its vast intellect
it considers these things,
knowing one day it shall consume its children –
engulf them in its own burning greatness.
It considers these things
for a near eternity
and knows
it is a fair price
for its terrible beauty.
